The Corner Studio in Wilbraham, MA was opened in January of 2020 as a joint studio space for Danielle Shaughnessey Photography and Deb Hanna Photography. Shortly after we realized that there were some aspects of our photography that were just better with us working together! Deb and I both have thriving individual businesses, offering everything from senior portraits, to weddings, to families and more. We started joining forces to offer mini sessions for the holidays and soon began offering them seasonally and for community outreach purposes. Later, we began offering school photography with the idea that it could be fun and easy for teachers, students, AND parents.
Sports photography had always been in the back of our minds, but neither of us are athletes and overly knowledgeable in this area. Our idea, however, was to take our school photography philosophy and apply it to sports:
EASY, SIMPLE AND FUN
Easy and Simple sort of go together. NO MORE PREORDERS OR PAPER FORMS! That was our first decision. By eliminating the paper forms and preorder requirements we took away a lot of chaos of picture day. Now as a parent your only job is get your child to the right place at the right time in their uniform. And let’s be honest, that is not an easy task many days! If you accomplish that you deserve a star, and we get that! No more dividing the kids up and trying to figure out who paid for an individual picture and who didn’t. Why? Because picture day should be FUN for everyone- regardless if your parents have paid. So, we take a picture of every single athlete.
We hate that you have to buy a picture you haven’t seen. We also know you may think you aren’t going to buy a picture, but may change your mind when you see it. We are confident we are going to produce pictures you are going to want to buy. And if we don’t, we don’t deserve your sales. Plain and simple. All images are edited and uploaded to an online gallery where families only purchase the photos they LOVE.
We also made the choice to only offer a small amount of product. Prints and digitals- no mugs, or dog tags or any of that. Will we include those things at some point? Probably, but we were trying to make it simple.
We decided that we were going to take more than one picture of each athlete. You know I have a hard time only taking one picture and then only showing you one picture?? That sounded awful to us. Our plan is always to try to take 3 different poses. We do some serious and some smiley- and if your child throws in a little something extra we will include those as well!
So what happens when two portrait photographers decide to take on sports photography? Well, see for yourself!
Remember the emphasis is on FUN! As soon as the kids realize this isn't your average picture day, they have SO MUCH FUN.
Our flexible philosophy allows us to capture siblings and friends shots too! All of these images are uploaded to a gallery where parents and families only choose the photos they LOVE!
